Overview: National Council of Jewish Women New York (NCJW NY) seeks an organized, motivated, and passionate graduate student to support our communications and marketing efforts.

We are looking to add an intern to our team pursuing an advanced degree in marketing, communications, or a similar field. The person in this role will develop and implement a communications strategy for our community programs, including the Hunger Program, Council Lifetime Learning Program for older adults, Back 2 School Store, and others. We are seeking someone who can propose unique and creative strategies to increase community engagement for program participation, event attendance, and more. This position is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student seeking hands-on communications and marketing experience in a nonprofit organization. Experience may be applicable for graduate thesis or capstone project.

Reporting Relationships:

The Marketing Intern reports to the Associate Director of Development and Communications and works in partnership with NCJW NY’s development and program staff.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and begin to implement a customized and sustainable communications plan for ongoing NCJW NY programs and one-off events. This will build off NCJW NY’s previous communications/marketing efforts, for the purpose of:
  • increasing overall community engagement and participation,
  • increasing organizational visibility and impact on the Upper West Side and beyond
  • Build and maintain a social media calendar for NCJW NY’s accounts (Instagram, X, Facebook) to increase following and engagement. Stay up to date on the latest social media trends and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Help NCJW NY utilize the tools we have at our disposal to maintain community engagement once internship period ends.
  • Support the creation of compelling storytelling content that highlights our mission and impact, such as drafting social media content and blogs,
  • Create reporter lists, helping to pitch to NYC/Upper West Side based reporters and/or neighborhood publications to bring in local media coverage of programs and events.
  • Track and analyze social media and other communications performance metrics and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, and working towards or completed relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Relevant previous work/internship experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Social media prowess.
  • Communications/Marketing prowess.
  • Understanding of the communications/marketing needs of a small, community-focused nonprofit.

Additional Characteristics and Skills:

  • Interest in pursuing nonprofit communications as a career.
  • Ability to stay organized to push multiple communications initiatives forward simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with a broad range of professionals, volunteers, and stakeholders, including high level donors and Board members.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and collaborate with NCJW NY staff member, as well as independently.
  • Commitment to the mission of NCJW NY.

Hours and Compensation:

The Marketing Intern will be available to report to NCJW NY for 10-12 hours a week (exact schedule to be determined) during the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The Marketing Intern will be paid a stipend of $190 a week.
