Job Description
The National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) is currently seeking to hire a full time Executive Director (ED). The ED reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors and will work in partnership with the Board and NIP’s eleven person staff to provide leadership, vision, and direction for NIP. The ED will implement policies and programs approved by the Board and manage NIP’s direct operations. This position requires worksite attendance.
NIP is a not-for-profit academic institution that provides expert graduate and post-graduate training to mental health professionals, and high quality, low cost therapy to individuals and couples. NIP was founded in 1970 and received its Regents Charter from the state of New York in 1972. Leadership
- Provide organizational leadership in concert with the Board of Directors
- Promote a commonality of purpose and vision
- Foster a culture of transparency within the organization and among community partners
- Establish a regular communication process with the board to ensure up to date information is shared in a timely manner
- Foster positive relationships among all community members including staff, faculty, students and volunteers
Fundraising
- Assure diverse revenue streams
- Cultivate and nurture new and existing donor relationships
- Identify, seek, and apply for grant funding from foundations and corporations
- Provide guidance to the Board’s Development committee
Strategic Planning
- Work effectively and efficiently with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan
- Track progress toward goals
- Collaborate with the Board to identify future strategic initiatives and implement plans toward sustainable growth
Board of Directors
- Coordinate Board and committee meetings
- Collaborate with Board leadership to ensure directors are fully informed of all relevant issues
- Collaborate with Board to enhance leadership and governance capacities
Management and Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day management and operations
- Lead efforts to increase administrative and operational capacities
- Improve technology platforms for the organization
- Assure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements including contracts with health insurance companies
- Hire and manage staff, including implementation of personnel policies approved by Board; manage staff review process; manage staff contracts, compensation and benefit programs with Comptroller/Finance Manager and Board representatives
- Oversee day to day operations of academic programs, including Treatment Center, in collaboration with administrative team and NIP community stakeholders
Financial Management
- Develop and implement financial forecasts and budgets for the Treatment Center and Training Institute
- Oversee Treatment Center and Training Institute revenue cycle including managing billing, collections, and insurance claims processing
- Knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel and other technological tools required for financial accounting purposes
- Produce financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for regular presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
- Provide financial training and guidance to staff members, and candidates to enhance their understanding of financial protocols and responsibilities.
- Develop and implement financial procedures and internal auditing controls to ensure sustainable financial operations
- Ensure that annual audit is completed on a timely basis
- Coordinate appropriately to meet all compliance requirements including annual submission of the IRS 990 and CHAR 500 forms
- Analyze trends, and engage Board in strategic discussions to ensure NIP’s financial stability and sustainability, including the ongoing maintenance of financial operating reserves
Communications
- Assure that NIP’s mission, programs, and services are presented clearly, consistently and positively within and beyond the NIP community
- Oversee website, social media and other communication tools
Technology
- Oversee maintenance of NIP’s management, accounting, and EHR software/applications
- Maintain and develop up-to-date and sustainable technological solutions for the institute.
Professional Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in management/administration preferred (e.g., MBA, MPA, MSW, etc.)
- Minimum 10 years successful executive nonprofit experience; familiarity with non-profit mental health and/or educational systems
- Strong administrative and organizational abilities
- A management style that promotes teamwork, innovation, motivation, and builds consensus
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge of technology and ability to appropriately introduce it into the organization
- Demonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and equitable organization
- Experience and comfort working in an organization experiencing change and growth
Compensation
- Compensation will be competitive and based on experience.
