SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a part-time opportunity with NMIC’s Adult Education Team. NMIC’s Adult Education department provides classes to help clients earn their high school equivalency degree and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to improve client’s English Language skills. This role will be primarily responsible for administering the Best Plus Exam to clients. BEST Plus is an individually administered face-to-face scripted interview designed to assess oral English language proficiency of adult English language learners who need to use English to function in day-to-day life in the United States. NMIC’s ESOL classes utilize BEST Plus during intake, as well as to demonstrate progress throughout the program Year.

This position reports to the Adult Education Program Manager and works closely with the Adult Education team and other members of the Education and Career Services team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer BEST Plus assessments with clients to assess English proficiency
  • Schedule clients for intake assessments.
  • Call clients to confirm testing and intake appointments.
  • Assist in preparing routine records and reports for programs.
  • Ensure that all candidate testing and outreach information is entered and updated in program databases.
  • Additional administrative duties and related responsibilities as assigned.
  • Additional opportunities available based on the candidate’s interests and experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision
  • Maintains staff and client confidentiality
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Available for in person shifts during business hours (Monday- Friday 9am to 6pm)
  • Occasional evening hours (Monday -Friday 6pm to 9pm) may be required
