Managing Director (Full-Time, Monday-Friday, Overtime Exempt)

Open Source Gallery is seeking a meticulous and flexible Managing Director. This is a new position necessitated by the organization’s rapid growth. The organization currently has an administrative team of two full-time and four part-time employees. The Managing Director will co-lead the organization with our founder and current Executive Director who will transition to the role of Artistic Director.

Open Source Gallery is an arts-based nonprofit organization inspired by the open source movement. In the spirit of this free exchange of knowledge, we provide a forum where art intersects with the community and the world at large. Open Source energizes a diverse and creative community for people of all ages and backgrounds with an emphasis on expression, experimentation, sustainability, and social engagement. 

KoKo NYC is the educational wing of Open Source Gallery. KoKo NYC workshops combine socially engaged art with STEAM education and sustainability, engaging with creativity as an integral part of a child’s development. KoKo NYC operates after-school programs in over 20 schools, family homeless shelters, libraries, and other spaces throughout NYC. 

The Managing Director will serve as the chief administrator of Open Source Gallery, which encompasses both the Gallery and KoKo operations, ensuring that development, marketing, finance, operations, and production operate at the highest possible level. The Managing Director will work closely with the Artistic Director, Education Director, and Development Director to develop and execute strategic plans, set performance goals, direct development initiatives, and oversee operations of both arts and education programs.

Requirements:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail a must
  • 5 years of experience leading an organization or equivalent
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations
  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Suite
  • Experience with fundraising and development
  • Experience creating and implementing budgets
  • Interest in our artistic and educational mission

 Relevant skills:  

  • Marketing or outreach experience
  • Human resources experience
  • Experience with Quickbooks or similar accounting software
  • Experience with networking and building relationships with other organizations, donors, government officials, and potential sponsors
  • Grant writing experience

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as chief administrator of Open Source Gallery and KoKo NYC
  • Serve as liaison to the Board of Directors
  • Devise and oversee Human Resources systems and policies
  • Prepare and implement the annual organization budget
  • Direct development activities and strategies, including fundraising, donor cultivation, and grants
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with individuals, politicians, and organizations to advance Open Source Gallery’s mission
  • Direct marketing, communications, and outreach efforts

Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday

Salary: Annual; $70,000-$90,000 (commensurate with experience)

Benefits: 20 days paid vacation annually
