Position: Project Manager, Ceramics Studio

Reports to: Director of Ceramics

Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. 

We are seeking a Project Manager who will oversee all aspects of project management in the ceramic studio and will play a key role in working with the Ceramics Director to facilitate client projects. The Project manager will support the daily operations of the shop’s management and will be the primary liaison between the studio and the artist. This role will be responsible for executing ceramics fabrication projects and participating in shop organization and maintenance as needed.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Maintain and monitor project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures
  • Organize and attend planning meetings with the artist and the Ceramics Director
  • Be the project lead on client communication throughout the projects, from concept ideation and presenting prototypes to production and completion of work
  • Oversee documentation, coordination, and communication of project change orders and update clients and internal shop staff
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the fabrication team to review upcoming projects, deadlines, and task allocation
  • Maintain an organized inventory of materials, including ordering studio equipment and project materials as needed
  • Develop strategies and implement workflows
  • In partnership with the Ceramic Director, draft and send estimates and invoices to clients and collect tax forms for new clients, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
  • Monitor project progress and address potential issues
  • Implement quality controls to ensure deliverables meet requirements
  • Maintain a project management calendar for fulfilling each project phase
  • Facilitate studio preparation for client visits and projects, ensuring a welcoming, functional, and accessible environment
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulation
  • Collaborate with other staff, shops, and departments on projects as needed
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to problem solve and handle multiple projects 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • High level of competency in ceramic fabrication using a variety of techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment but also independently as needed
  • Flexible, creative, organized, thorough, and resourceful
  • Competent in file management
  • Fluency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Box, and other platforms
  • Passionate about the arts and Powerhouse’s mission

Hours + Compensation: The schedule for this position is an 8-hour shift while the building is open from 8:00 am-10:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00-8:00 pm on weekends. Flexibility on evenings and weekends is required. The salary range for this position is $70,000-75,000 annually.
