Prep identifies New York City’s most promising students of color, prepares them for success at the nation’s top independent schools throughout the Northeast, and supports their academic and personal growth through college graduation. Position Summary: Prep for Prep seeks one instructor for a rigorous, five-week intensive arts education and leadership development program for gifted high school students. Jointly organized by Prep for Prep and Sotheby’s, the Summer Art Academy will run from July 5–August 9, 2023, and will consist of academic and professional development components.

The Summer Art Academy will provide students with an overview of art history and theory and expose them to the vast array of professions in the art world. Coursework, activities, lectures by guest speakers, and site visits are planned to prepare students for future internships in the field.

Responsibilities: The instructors will teach, in tandem, a proprietary curriculum to 15-18 rising high school sophomores, lead students on scheduled site visits, and report to Prep for Prep staff and representatives.

Requirements:

●        Classroom experience with high school and or college students

●        Preferred: M.A. or M.F.A.

●        2+ years of relevant work experience

●        Strong instructional background, preferably as a course instructor and/or arts educator

●        Demonstrable knowledge of art history and experience in the art world

●        Flexibility and timely responsiveness

 

Compensation: A competitive and generous stipend will be commensurate with experience—salary range: $9,500 – $11,500.
