Position: Afterschool Program Group Leader (After School Youth Counselors)

Funded by the New York City Education Department, the Office of Community Schools, and the 21st Century CLC grants, Purelements: An Evolution in Dance collaborates with Brooklyn public schools to provide impactful program, featuring both academic support and cultural arts activities for students.

Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, Group Counselors are responsible for the supervision and well-being of a group of assigned children enrolled in the Purelements’ Afterschool program for grades K-5. The Counselor will serve as an appropriate role model for the children and other staff at the site.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Will support the Site Coordinator as he/she operates the afterschool program, following

Purelements standards, policies, procedures and professional expectations.

• Will actively engage in activities with participants including physical activity, enrichment activity

and Homework Help implementation.

• Will supervise his/her group of afterschool participants at the site and maintain health and well-being of all children enrolled.

• Will help maintain and inventory supplies needed for the program.

• Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, will report any staff or child accident/incidents or

suspected child abuse injury to the Site Coordinator or Assistant Site Coordinator as soon as

possible. Will fill out appropriate report, make necessary phone calls, and follow all emergency

procedures.

• Will attend all scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and any other meetings deemed necessary by

the Site Coordinator, Assistant Site Coordinator, Education Specialist or leadership team.

• Will assist with program set-up and clean-up, so they are done correctly, neatly and meet school

contracted guidelines.

• Will assist with drills to practice site-evacuation/emergency procedures and is capable of

implementing such procedures.

• Will be directly accountable to the Site Coordinator or Assistant Site Coordinator, regarding all

matters concerning the job responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age: 18 years of age; Education: High School Degree or higher

• Must be compliant with Dept. of Education fingerprint and security clearances.

• Desire and ability to work with children and peers.

• Ability to lead and supervise participants.

• Possess the ability to lead participants in group activities, especially leading enrichment and

recreational activities.

• Basic appreciation and understanding of group management and child development.

• Ability to accept supervision and guidance.

• Ability to follow and execute schedules and activity plans.

• Possess imagination, a sense of humor, patience, conviction, sincerity, enthusiasm, initiative,

self-control, adaptability, willingness to learn, integrity, and ingenuity.

• Must have auditory and/or visual awareness of each child’s ongoing activity as appropriate

• Must be able to execute all programs represented in the daily schedule

Part time: Must be available Mon-Fri from 2:30-5pm; Pay rate is $15-$18/hr

Employment runs from now to June 2023
