Title: Public Programming Intern (1)
Duration: 4 Weeks (July 14-August 7)
Schedule: Wednesdays (9 AM – 2:00 PM), Thursdays (9 AM – 3:00 PM), Fridays (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM), Saturdays (8:30 AM-4:30 PM)
Job Type: Internship; Seasonal; Contracted; 24 hours per week
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour
Work Location: Randall’s Island Park, New York, NY 10035
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
This internship is part of a four-week summer program, designed to provide hands-on experience, cross-departmental learning and professional development in urban environmental/non-profit careers. Interns will contribute to field-based projects at Randall’s Island Park, while participating in workshops, career panels, and a culminating project. Interns will contribute in a meaningful way to the Park and the organization and will gain foundational experience in a professional setting. Funding for the program has been generously provided through the Pinkerton Foundation.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Public Programs Intern will report to the Public Programs Manager and Director of Environmental Programs, taking occasional direction from the Public Programs, Education, and Volunteer Coordinators. The Intern will help to implement a wide range of programming at Randall’s Island Park with an emphasis on environmental education, health & wellness, and arts & cultural programming. The Intern will work collaboratively with staff members across the organization to support programming and volunteer initiatives. The Intern will be required to work on-site, outdoors, weekends, and evenings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help to implement youth and community programming and events, including workshops, festivals, volunteer projects, classes, movie nights and a wide range of other programs.
- Engage with members of the public to build awareness of the park and its programs
- Represent and promote RIPA programming and facilities at workshops, conferences, and community events.
- Maintain records of program visits, facility usage, event attendance, waivers, contact information and related data through data collection, photographs, and narrative.
- Implement strategies for collecting meaningful feedback from program participants and volunteers.
- Support the Communications department by providing content for social media posts about RIPA’s programs, when needed.
- Support all programming, park-wide initiatives, and events.
- Perform general administrative duties including, but not limited to, document management, data entry, etc.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- 18 years of age or above.
- Interest in community-centered activities, outreach, event coordination, etc.
- Interest in parks and urban green spaces.
- Ability to work with and interact with the public with a friendly demeanor.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and create positive working relationships.
- Ability to articulate and advocate for RIPA’s mission.
- Strong organizational skills, as well as strong attention to detail.
- Highly motivated, able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Motivated and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading and promoting general programming.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
