Sadie Nash Leadership Project (SNLP) provides award-winning experiential social justice education to more than 600 young women and gender-expansive youth of color in New York City and Newark each year. Operating with love and rigor, we use the tools of popular education to build critical consciousness, community, and college readiness. Our programs include a nationally recognized six-week summer institute, in-school and after-school classes, college access and persistence support, and an advanced-level fellowship to design and implement an original social justice project. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community.

About the Position

SNLP is seeking a creative, responsive and enthusiastic Director of Programs to join its full-time team. The selected individual will supervise, support, and collaborate with full-time and part-time staff to expand access to high-quality, values-aligned programming for young women and gender-expansive youth of color in NYC and Newark, NJ. Our ideal candidate is someone who understands the history and power of popular/experiential/political education, who is deeply steeped in youth development theory and practice, who has years of experience building and supervising large teams, and who is relentlessly enthusiastic and passionate about achieving high outcomes for all young people. The Director of Programs will also work closely with the Executive Director (ED) and members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to carry out the strategic priorities of the organization. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Programs reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for the following:

Supervision and Team Management:

  • Support a team of ~8 full time program managers, coordinators and part time support staff across New York City and Newark offices, providing guidance, feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Directly supervise ~5 program team members.
  • Design goals and plans for professional development for FT and PT staff to foster culture of learning, inquiry, and mutual support among SNLP facilitators. 

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Develop a vision and plan for ongoing curriculum development within SNLP programs, guided by frameworks of popular education. 
  • Collaborate with the program team to develop and share curricular materials that can be flexibly used by staff across programs.
  • Assess existing programming for alignment with strategic goals and adapt program design (content, length of programming, number of participants, target population, projected outcomes) as needed.

Evaluation and Reporting 

  • Identify and apply key concepts in youth work, youth work administration, racial equity,  feminism and womanism, and social justice movement work towards SNLP programming.
  • Lead efforts to collect and analyze data, generate findings, and develop recommendations for strengthening and sustaining SNLP programming. 
  • Monitor program budgets, track progress against program goals, and prepare regular reports to communicate outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with SLT members on grant proposals and reports.

Organizational Culture and Leadership

  • Collaborate with ED and other department leaders to foster an organizational culture aligned with SNLP values and philosophy.
  • Collaborate on the development of the organizational  strategic vision and hold responsibility for implementation in and beyond programming.
  • Represent SNLP and share theories and best practices of our work at conferences, network meetings, and other professional spaces. 
  • Participate in regular meetings of the SLT as well as with the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are results-oriented, and have strong project management skills. You should have:

  • 10  years of work experience, ideally within the education field, with at least 5 years experience developing and managing multiple programs, supervising staff, and running teams.
  • Knowledge of outcomes measurement, program quality tools and other methods to ensure excellence.
  • Deep content knowledge and expertise within youth development including different models, latest research, and ongoing trends.
  • Experience designing curricula for high school youth and/or collaborating with curriculum developers.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting programmatic data for various purposes.
  • Excellent project management skills and a proven ability to handle a variety of projects and assignments at once, prioritizing tasks, managing time well, and delegating masterfully.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with young women and families, community partners, staff, and board.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender, racial  and social justice.

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in related field (e.g. Education, Youth Studies, Social Work).
  • Familiarity with Sadie Nash Leadership Project.

OTHER DETAILS

This position is a FT Exempt and based in our NYC or Newark, NJ office.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000. Benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a wellness stipend, generous paid leave, and an employer contribution to your retirement fund. Please note that in order to counter pay inequality, salaries are non-negotiable beyond the amount listed.
