Summary: 

The Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are an initiative of the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence to reduce barriers faced by domestic violence victims who are seeking help.  Safe Horizon is co-located at the FJCs and partners with the Mayor’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and other civil legal and community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for victims to receive various services.  Safe Horizon staff at the FJC provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals, and practical assistance to survivors, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans.

Essential Job Functions:

The Intake Specialist/Case Manager will greet clients who access the Family Justice Center. The Case Manager’s responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients;
  • Coordinate and manage client flow and information;
  • Staff the reception desk;
  • Assess clients’ safety and needs;
  • Determine client needs;
  • Determine if clients are appropriate for the Family Justice Center’s services and make referrals as necessary;
  • Assist in determining next steps for clients’ visit to the Family Justice Center;
  • Work with on-site partners to schedule client appointments;
  • Answer telephones and respond to service inquiries;
  • Provide information, referrals and advocacy on the phone and in person;
  • Link the client to on and off site partners;
  • Document client interactions and compile statistics on a monthly basis;
  • Provide daily accurate data collection and reporting to FJC Administrative Staff to track basic client screening needs, client demographic information, client services provided at the FJC and other agency interactions;
  • Attend relevant trainings, workshops and seminars;
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with other service providers;
  • Provide back-up coverage for Client Services Specialists/Screeners, as well as lobby coverage;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be assertive, well organized, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to think critically and address crisis situations as they arise;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and be computer savvy; 
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence or other crime victims preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Hiring Range: 21.70 – 24.42 Hourly 

Full-time Hours: 35 Hours per week
