Sanctuary for Families is New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Anti-Trafficking Initiative (ATI) Supervising Social Worker, supervises the case management service provision for human trafficking survivor clients. In addition, the Supervising Social Worker educates the public, government, social service, legal, medical and law enforcement communities about issues relating to survivors of trafficking and other forms of gender-based violence, and advocates for legislative and policy changes. The Supervising Social Worker also provides clinical counseling services to ATI clients. Finally, as the Supervising Social Worker, the staff in this position supports the Director in overseeing the Anti-Trafficking Initiative support services as a whole.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advocate for clients who are survivors of trafficking and/or commercial sexual exploitation in a wide variety of social systems, including criminal justice, landlord/tenant, public benefits, etc.;
  • Manages referral system, assigns cases, monitors client progress, makes recommendations, ensures clients are in compliance with service plans and supports program staff in the screening, intake, funding enrollment, and assessment of client needs;
  • Provides affidavits and evaluations for immigration and other legal purposes;
  • Responsible for crisis intervention, suicide assessment, safety planning for ATI clients with a focus on trauma, safety and other related issues;
  • Conducts biopsychosocial assessments for legal clients in need of mental health assessments;
  • Supports the Director of the Anti-Trafficking Initiative in the supervision of ATI staff, including case managers and support staff;
  • Collaborates with Director of Anti-Trafficking Initiative to recruit, mentor, and train Case Managers, Avodah Fellows, MSW students, volunteers, and interns;
  • Manages the AVODAH Fellowship process including AVODAH program application, reviewing applications, interviewing and hiring, mid-year and year-end reports, AVODAH training days, and AVODAH site visit;
  • Works closely with the EMPOWER Center and Justice and Empowerment for Teens (JET) program staff at Sanctuary for Families to enhance service provision across Sanctuary for survivors of human trafficking and/or commercial sexual exploitation;
  • Represents Sanctuary for Families at community events, and on advocacy committees and task forces;
  • Collaborates with government agencies, community-based organizations, and the medical community to improve systemic responses to trafficked individuals;
  • Directly manages grants that support the Anti-Trafficking Initiative, including reviewing financial requests, liaising with grantors, and supervising the monthly/quarterly reports;
  • Provides direct and group supervision and support to Anti-Trafficking Initiative Case Managers and interns, as well as group supervision, training, and support to the Legal Center Case Managers supporting survivors of trafficking;
  • Collaborates with Director of Anti-Trafficking Initiative to develop and implement trainings;
  • Provides direct field supervision to MSW interns, including SIFI certification, field practicum application, clinical supervisors meetings, and clinical seminar trainings; and
  • Perform any other Legal Department or agency-related duties or special projects, as directed by Director.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling required; fully licensed preferred;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical and/or program management experience;
  • Excellent writing, research and analytical skills;
  • Excellent judgment and common sense;
  • Excellent public speaking skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent program management and supervisory skills;
  • Experience working in the fields of human trafficking, domestic violence and immigration preferred;
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure;
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse educational, cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • Ability to inspire and motivate;
  • Demonstrated understanding of different national, cultural, and religious backgrounds; and
  • Fluency in a community language other than English strongly preferred, especially Mandarin or Spanish.

Budgeted Salary: $62,500 – $65,000.

Work position is hybrid

Vaccination Policy: Proof of vaccination or proof of first dose with scheduled 2nd dose within 30 days is required.
