POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the AV Team Lead, the AV Technician’s role is to operate, support and maintain in-house audio-visual equipment in auditoriums, conference rooms and offices.The AV Tech will troubleshoot problems, identify and conduct staff training as needed and provide real-time assistance as required.In this role, the Tech will work closely with colleagues and other departments to schedule, plan and run various in-person, virtual and hybrid events. They will help plan and run live events throughout the Foundation.

Our team’s goal is to help our scientific colleagues maximize their ability to collaborate and communicate through the effective use of technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with in-house events team and organizers to define AV needs/requirements.
  • Advance preparation of presentations and testing to troubleshoot any problems.
  • Operate equipment during events.
  • When assigned they will spearhead events, acting as the point of person for planning and technical show calling during the actual event.
  • Post event editing, management and distribution of video files.
  • Monitor the department’s help desk ticket system.
  • Investigate reported issues and perform hands-on troubleshooting if necessary.
  • Teach administrators to use AV equipment and run meetings – the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical user is essential.
  • Learn and follow proper AV practices and procedures and department standards
  • Monitor email, calendar, and room-reservation software.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make recommendations for long-term strategies for meeting future AV equipment and corporate technology needs.
  • Collaborate with policy makers to establish and enforce proper AV practices and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AV equipment contracts and supervise contract-based installations.
  • Program and maintain digital signage.
  • Capture and log footage of needed lectures.
  • Provide routine maintenance and storage of microphones, cameras, projectors, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Assist guests with Wi-Fi connectivity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required, as well as 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment, software, concepts, practices and procedures
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Preferred but not required – experience as a technical lead during live events

  • Video editing software (Final Cut Pro)
  • Proficient with Dropbox, G-Suite, MS Office suite, help desk ticketing system
  • Working knowledge of video conferencing software (Zoom, BlueJeans, Hangouts)
  • Proficient with PowerPoint, Keynote, Adobe
  • Experience in academic settings a plus
  • Must be willing to work long hours on event days and occasionally on weekends
