Solar One is a 501c(3) organization that empowers communities in the New York City metro area to thrive in the face of the challenges brought on by climate change, and to embrace a world that is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.

Originally founded in 2004 to manage Stuyvesant Cove Park, a two-acre native plant park and a small environmental education center, Solar One has grown into an award-winning organization with a thriving array of programs. Solar One’s mission is to design and deliver innovative education, training, and technical assistance that fosters sustainability and resiliency in diverse urban environments. We empower learning that changes the way people think about energy, sustainability, and resilience by engaging and educating a diverse set of stakeholders and beneficiaries.

We are seeking two dynamic individuals passionate about sustainable and inclusive community development, driven to use their talents to advance real change, through our focus areas including:  K-12 Education, Green Job Training, Solar Energy technical assistance.

Job Summary

The Career Placement Associates will cultivate positive coaching rapport with Solar One participants (adults 18-55) as they seek post-program employment. The position reports to the Director of Industry Engagement. This is a hybrid position, working out of Solar One’s Long Island City location 2-3 days weekly.

The Career Placement Associate will provide dedicated one-on-one support, job search, and job connection for Green Workforce Training students. The Career Placement Associate will work with students to understand their career plans, review their base-line resume and cover letters and interview skills.

The Career Placement Associate will work with students to assist them in searching for in-person and remote work and connect them to jobs along their career pathways in green building operations and maintenance, green construction, solar, and energy efficiency.

 Main job responsibilities include:

Student Services

●     Build relationships and manage a caseload of up to 100 students who complete programs annually, ensuring that 80% of them connect to work within 90 days of completion

●     Working with participant referral partners ensuring students have complete resumes, current I9 documentation and valid certification required, providing consistent and high quality employment-focused engagements to ensure that students are qualified candidates for the job opportunities that they seek. More specifically,

●     Partner with students on their short and long term career goals and decisions

●     Ensure all students have a complete employment portfolio, including resumes, cover letters, and reference

●     Identify any potential barriers to participant success while in the program or being engaged by contacting the referral agency and Director of IE. Schedule an immediate call or meeting with the participant for support

●     Screen students for Solar One developed job opportunities with trusted employers

●     Research potential jobs and if necessary, training-related job opportunities for students and ensure they are equipped for self-directed job search

●     Maintain communication with students regarding applications, interviews, hiring, new hire follow-up, and documentation for reporting to the Director of Industry Engagement

Qualifications and Skills

Successful candidates for this role should be able to demonstrate the following:

Technical Skills

Student Feedback and Data Entry

●     Conduct timely data entry in Salesforce and document preparation for soft and hard copy files on services and outcomes.

●     Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification (assisting with Job fairs)

Subject Area Expertise Required

●     3-5 years of Career Placement experience and case management experience working with a portfolio of 75+ (ages 18-55) preferred

●     Content knowledge and/or experience in some or all of the following areas: solar photovoltaics, energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable building, passive house, HVAC, Buildings operations and maintenance, construction

●     Demonstrated success in communicating with partner organizations and individuals to build and maintain strong partnerships

●     Demonstrated ability to meet program goals. (This position is measured against placement rate).
