Organization Description:

South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is an inclusive, South Asian-focused 501(c)3 youth development organization. Through our innovative, holistic approach, we work toward educational equity by providing opportunities and resources to less privileged New York City youth, ensuring they are empowered academically, emotionally, and socially to become engaged community members. 

Established in 1996, SAYA has grown into a $3.8 million organization currently serving over 1,400 youth each year through programming at eight NYC schools and our community center in Elmhurst, Queens. SAYA is committed to fostering a strong sense of belonging and ensuring that each of our program sites serve as safe and brave spaces where all young people feel valued, culturally affirmed, and welcomed. 

Position Summary:

The Data and Impact Manager will provide organization-wide support to expand on SAYA’s commitment to delivering impactful programs and services. This position will improve use of data and other evidence; empower decision-making with data; and create more agile, impactful, outcome-driven program design. 

The Data and Impact Manager will report to the Chief Development Officer, but will also be required to work cross-functionally within the organization to own the implementation of organization-wide systems, processes, and trainings to promote and create a data-driven culture. This individual will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management for all data collection and evaluation efforts. This person will also play a key role in setting and implementing an organizational growth strategy alongside the leadership team. Additionally, this person will be responsible for managing the Development Database (currently Raiser’s Edge NXT) and will work to store, organize, update and analyze important data that is essential for hitting fundraising targets as well as promoting awareness of SAYA.

The ideal candidate is a goal-oriented, strategic, and collaborative thinker who can seamlessly execute and juggle multiple internal stakeholders and external relationships, while meeting deadlines. This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual who will contribute towards telling a story of the impact of SAYA’s work that is rooted in data and evidence.

Reports to:

Chief Development Officer

Overall responsibilities:

  • Compile, analyze, organize, and present program data to inform outcomes, collaborate on curriculum development, and secure continued stakeholder support
  • Capitalize on data storytelling to amplify program impacts and engagement to build a pipeline of funders, volunteers, and program participants
  • Conduct analysis of relevant census data, as well as other sources for demographic data
  • Identify impact/outcome measurement gaps and design system(s) to capture missing data
  • Provide colleagues with the data that leads to successful program recruitment and relationship building with external partners to increase organizational reach 
  • Create systems and processes for quality data collection and reporting across programs, research, and organization-wide initiatives 
  • Keep the Chief Development Officer informed of trends in social impact measurement and communication

In collaboration with Programs:

  • Strategize and lead internal long-term data compilation to articulate programs’ value proposition
  • Develop SAYA’s logic model, including the organization and program specific short- and long-term goals and outcomes
  • Work closely with the Chief Program Officer to design or modify evaluation tools (pre/post-tests, surveys, assessments, interview guides, and focus group protocols) including both qualitative and quantitative methods 
  • Partner with program staff to conduct site visits and program observations and create program quality observation reports
  • Design and implement ongoing staff trainings to improve awareness and practices around program evaluation, data integrity and positive youth development
  • Develop and implement procedures for effective management of programs’ data
  • Produce ad-hoc reporting and analysis, as needed
  • Keep colleagues and SAYA program leaders abreast of the latest research findings, trends, and best practices in the field of positive youth development and social-emotional learning

In collaboration with Leadership:

  • Align with the Chief Development Officer on metrics that will be tracked and reported for internal assessment, program evaluation, and external communications
  • Produce reports that inform ways to engage participants, funders, mentors, facilitators, and volunteers in programs
  • Provide the Chief Development Officer and Chief Program Officer with information that supports strategic planning of program initiatives 

In collaboration with Development:

  • Assist Chief Development Officer and Associate Director of Institutional Giving on positioning and impact storytelling for external documents including: partnership proposals, decks, grant applications, grant proposals, event speaker talking points, and press releases
  • Track impact of each partnership throughout term and compile impact reports
  • Lead data-driven program recruitment outreach and builds relationships with external partners to increase organizational reach and funder leads
  • Create and maintain regular production of development reports, exports, and donor segmentation for distribution throughout the year
  • Continuously improve forms and reports in regards to format, distribution procedures, and alignment with purpose
  • Filter and “clean” data, and review reports among other documents to verify data is correct and the prepared report is up to the department’s quality standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (statistics, research, public policy, sociology) or demonstrated undergraduate coursework in quantitative and research-oriented subjects
  • Three plus years of experience in program design, measurement and evaluation
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Social Work, Education, Business, or related fields strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth development, after school, and public education arenas 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities, people, and projects effectively
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the organization
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources and excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write for diverse audiences
  • Deep knowledge of impact measurement, data analytics, and data-driven storytelling
  • Tech-savvy (experience using CRMs and project and communication management software like Asana, Copper, Monday.com, Slack, Google Suite, and social impact measurement software) 

Compensation

$65-70k commensurate with experience
