Sunbridge Institute, a world-renowned, not-for-profit adult-education center offering Waldorf teacher training and situated on a beautiful campus in Rockland County, NY, is looking to expand its team of highly motivated professionals with the addition of a skilled staff accountant.

This is a 35 hour-a-week position, offering health and time-off benefits.

Reporting to the executive director and working closely with our finance consultant, the staff accountant has primary responsibility for maintaining Sunbridge Institute’s financial records, including the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable, and managing invoices and human resource records.

Participation at staff and other meetings is required, as is occasionally supporting Sunbridge at weekend and/or evening in-person or online events. Some work for the position may be completed off-site.

Some of the things you will need to handle:

  • Perform all bookkeeping activities, including: processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable, preparation and posting of general ledger entries, and completing bank and other reconciliations on a monthly basis
  •  Manage the organization’s cash accounts, including providing cash flow reporting and projections on a timely and accurate basis
  • Manage Sunbridge-employee relations, including onboarding, benefits, payroll, and year-end processing
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment regulations
  • Manage the annual audit with SBI independent auditors, including preparation of all supporting schedules and analyses
  • Oversee and process all student financial records and financial aid applications
  • Generate regular financial reports as requested by the executive director

The staff accountant may supervise an assistant, depending on need.

 A successful applicant will:

  • Have 3+ years bookkeeping /accounting experience. Blackbaud accounting experience is a plus
  • Have strong facility and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Show managerial capabilities and ability to actively troubleshoot and problem-solve, as seen in your work or personal life experiences
  • Have excellent English language written and oral communication skills
  • Enjoy working with people, students, schools
  • Thrive in a collaborative work style

  Experience in a higher-education or other not-for-profit work environment is also a plus

Salary: $50K-$55K+, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
