Teatown Lake Reservation, the largest community supported, non-profit environmental education

center in Westchester County, New York is seeking an Environmental Educator to be a part of the team that provides nature-based programs for all ages, including school groups, public programs, summer and school break camps, and adult workshops. This position requires an enthusiastic, outgoing, and energetic person who will further Teatown’s mission to inspire our community to lifelong environmental stewardship. Ideal candidates will have a background in environmental education and a foundation in natural science.

Position Summary: The Environmental Educator is responsible for developing and teaching programs across ages and audiences, and for developing, coordinating, and implementing programming in conjunction with the rest of the Education Department team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate hands-on engaging, culturally relevant natural science and environmental education programs, classes, and activities for diverse populations and ages.
  2. Deliver nature-based lessons for Teatown’s summer camp and support seasonal summer camp staff.
  3. Teach with ambassador animals safely in service of broader educational goals.
  4. Assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating education programs.
  5. Assist with maintenance and upkeep of collection, equipment, tools, etc.
  6. Assist with special events and occasional weekend work as assigned.
  7. Responsible for various other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. BA or BS in education, environmental education, or related degree. One year of teaching experience, preferably in science education, or related field.
  2. Working knowledge of the natural sciences and willingness to expand on this knowledge.
  3. Ability to work with people of all backgrounds.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Ability to work independently, self-starter.
  6. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination sequence, including booster shot(s) where applicable.
  7. This is a full-time position with a 35-hour work week. The regular work week is Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, with occasional weekend work required for events. This position will be performed primarily in person at Teatown Lake Reservation, with occasional remote work if conditions warrant.
