Overview

The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for spearheading and executing the Tenement Museum’s institutional giving strategy to sustain and increase resources from corporate, foundation, and government donors. This includes working with the CDO to set and meet annual institutional giving goals and collaborating with senior leaders in Programs, Marketing, Digital, Collections/Curatorial, and Finance to manage existing grants, increase support from institutional donors, and build the overall institutional giving portfolio. This position will also manage and direct full-time Senior Grant Writer. The Director of Institutional Giving must be ambitious, well-organized, an excellent writer, a strategic thinker, a clear communicator, and a team-player. They play a leadership role both within the Development Department and in the organization at large. A sense of humor and ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment are key.

Responsibilities

·        Develop and execute Tenement Museum’s institutional fundraising strategy ensuring a high level of quality on external relationships and internal systems management (calendar, projections), enabling the Tenement Museum to successfully manage and increase support from institutional donors.

·        Collaborate with senior leaders in Program, Marketing, Digital, Collections/Curatorial, and Finance to complete grant proposals, budgets, and reports and identify new strategies and opportunities to build intuitional support for the Museum.

·        Manage and build the Museum’s corporate membership program.

·        Work with the President and CDO to develop and steward relationships with current and potential institutional supporters. This includes the preparation of donor strategy, briefings, and correspondence.

·        Develop and steward relationships with current and potential institutional supporters. This includes helping plan and participating in key Tenement Museum events to steward and cultivate institutional donors in-person as well as participating in meetings and phone calls with institutional supporters.

·        Manage prospect research for institutional donors with an eye toward expanding the overall institutional portfolio.

·        Collaborate with Development Database Operations Manager to ensure that all institutional giving records and reports are accurate and up to date including calendar and revenue projections.

·        Work with CDO and Senior Grant Writer to develop and maintain moves management protocols and reports.

·        Work closely with Financial Management team, Development Database Operations Manager, and senior leadership to develop and ensure shared understanding of grant budgets, timelines, and deliverables and to ensure that invoices, stewardship reports, and contracts are being issued in accordance with deadlines.

·        Manage and direct a full time Senior Grant Writer.

Qualifications

·        BA required, advanced degree preferred.

·        At least five years grant-writing experience.

·        A passion for the Tenement Museum’s mission and a deep commitment to its work to foster learning, perspective, and empathy through sharing the stories of immigrant, migrant, and refugee families in Manhattan.

·        A proven track record for meeting fundraising goals and developing innovative strategies to foster new donor relationships.

·        Experience managing a team, donor relationships, and partnering with leadership staff to develop and realize comprehensive fundraising plans.

·        Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to listen, question, and synthesize information in a compelling manner.
