Job Summary 

We are a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. BCNY’s Communications Manager will support the Director of Communications by planning, and executing an innovative communications, marketing, and social media strategy. Collaborating closely with the Communications and Social Media Associate, the Communications Manager will develop and implement effective systems and processes to ensure the department is organized along with operating effectively and efficiently. This position includes content creation, copywriting, designing digital marketing materials, and press announcements that are consistent with BCNY’s mission, vision, values and goals. They will support the Director of Communications in building relationships across the organization and work closely with the programs team to ensure that our brand and messaging represents the organization’s strong focus on New York City youth.

The ideal candidate is a proven professional passionate about youth programming with a successful record developing and executing communications strategies. He or she has managed communications in challenging situations, and worked closely with senior staff and is able to work collaboratively and independently. They will possess excellent writing and research skills, be able to create accurate and detailed messaging with sensitivity to tone, culture and positioning, is tech savvy and pays close attention to detail. Knowledge of issues that affect youth in New York City, particularly youth in the communities where our clubhouses are located, is an asset. The candidate will propose data driven strategies and plans to broaden our audiences across all platforms, and increase excitement about BCNY programming, partnerships and events.

The candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years related experience in the communications field, with non-profit and media relations experience preferred. He or she will have a broad understanding and interest in youth development, education, and programming design to build equity. They will have significant experience in online marketing, producing newsletters, social media development, and website monitoring and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement a strategic communications plan that maintains brand integrity, amplifies BCNY’s programs, mission, values and vision.
  • Manage inter-departmental communications and flow of information.
  • Manage and execute mass emailing and newsletters.
  • Manage Communications team file organization.
  • Create and manage social media content in collaboration with the Communications team and program staff.
  • Manage, post and moderate BCNY’s social media accounts.
  • Execute multiple and diverse communications tasks and manage task priorities of Communications team under the supervision of the Director of Communications.
  • Manage and execute design of brand-forward merchandise and printed and digital materials including annual reports, flyers, brochures, posters, invitations, programs, and letterhead.
  • Collaborate with program staff, support and initiate marketing programs, member recruitment, and branding new program initiatives.
  • Update, moderate, maintain and publish content for BCNY’s website, and work with program staff to ensure information and descriptions are current and accurate.
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications to identify media, press, and guest speaker opportunities and implement campaigns around key issues and events.
  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships across print, broadcast, and online media outlets.
  • Partner with the Director of Communications to track, analyze and evaluate communications data. Support building a strategic communications outreach that reaches target audiences.

 

Job Requirements 

BCNY is a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. To that end, we require that all BCNY employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. BCNY requires all staff to receive a booster shot that protects against COVID-19 once they become eligible. New employees will be asked to submit proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications, journalism/media, creative and/or marketing.
  • Experience supporting leadership and working in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Models strong email and verbal communication skills.
  • Significant experience in creative graphic design for both print and digital mediums.
  • Exceptional designer, storyteller, and project manager, capable of communicating complex concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in Online Express, WordPress, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, Canva, Mailchimp, Excel, Word, SharePoint and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately in a fast- paced environment.
  • A broad understanding and interest in youth development, education, and social justice.
  • Google Ad experience and sharp photography and videography skills a plus.
