The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-XII, seeks candidates for the position of Lower School Curriculum Coordinator for Classes K-IV starting August 2025.

The Lower School Curriculum Coordinator, a position new to the school, will report to the Head of the Lower School and the Academic Dean. The Head of the Lower School is responsible for the scope and sequence of the Lower School curriculum and the Academic Dean oversees Brearley’s academic program writ large. The Lower School Curriculum Coordinator will work closely with the Head of the Lower School and the Academic Dean to identify the curricular needs of the division and a challenging, cohesive, and inspirational program. The Coordinator will partner with lower school teachers to develop lesson plans in English, math, and social studies that achieve the curricular goals of the division. This position will continue and build upon the work of the Math Coordinator; candidates should have expertise in elementary math pedagogy. Competitive candidates will be current with Singapore Math and its extensions.

Responsibilities include:

  • leading professional development in Singapore Math
  • serving as a resource to teachers in curriculum development and instruction in English language arts, math, and social studies
  • supporting the division in determining and implementing curricular recommendations
  • guiding the vertical and horizontal alignment of the core academic curriculum
  • assisting the Head of the Lower School and the Academic Dean in the evaluation of academic programs, grading and assessment, and their impact on student achievement
  • staying abreast of trends in elementary education through professional readings, seminars, and conventions and sharing learned insights with the Lower School
  • implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy
  • teaching one section of Class IV math

The ideal candidate will:

  • hold a bachelor’s degree in an academic discipline; a graduate degree in K-V curriculum development is preferred
  • have at least five years of K-V lead teaching experience
  • have experience in K-V curriculum development and implementation
  • have experience in supporting and leading teachers
  • have expertise in Singapore Math and its extension materials
  • demonstrate expertise in instructional methods and educational theory
  • demonstrate strong skills in communication and outstanding organizational abilities
  • demonstrate the desire to work collaboratively and in consultation
  • have a commitment to the education of girls
  • have a love of children, flexibility, and a jolly sense of humor

Salary

In 2025-26 the total full-time salary for this position ranges from $85,000 to $105,000 depending on years of full-time relevant experience.
