The Doe Fund is a leading New York City non-profit organization that operates the enormously visible Ready, Willing & Able program, whose participants clean over 160 miles of streets and sidewalks every day. With a $65 million budget, 400 staff members, and 46,000 individual donors, The Doe Fund is nationally acclaimed as a work-based model for solving homelessness and criminal recidivism. We empower people to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency, substance abuse, and incarceration through innovative work and housing programs.

The Legal Referral Manager oversees the Child Support and RAP sheet Specialist. Coordinating both the quarterly Legal Clinics, and Career and Resource Fair. The manager is also responsible for the Predatory Lending Awareness and Counseling program (PLAC) as well as facilitating the Financial Management Class at the Harlem Facility.  The Manager is also responsible for seeing clients throughout their entire stay in the RWA program as well as maintaining contact with them for 12 months after graduation. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the child support and legal referral department 
  • Facilitates child support orientations on a monthly basis
  • Conduct regular supervision and support via individual supervision and team meetings 
  • Oversee the Predatory lending awareness counseling program
  • Facilitate financial management and readiness class
  • Provide one-on-one financial counseling sessions 
  • Assist with obtaining client credit report information 
  • Oversee all Fatherhood parenting classes in the RWA program 
  • Coordinating child support garnishment of clients
  • Assist in the development of Parenting Workshops and Resources
  • Make referrals for legal resources when necessary 
  • Accompanies trainees to court when necessary 
  • Attend monthly partnership meetings with OCSS
  • Develop and create proposals for program enhancements
  • Organized events on a quarterly and bi-quarterly basis for The Doe Fund
  • Serve as liaison between clients and the Courts and the Office of Child Support Enforcement 
  • Oversee the RAP sheet and Conviction program 
  • Organize and assist in obtaining a record of arrest and prosecution sheet 
  • Review RAP sheets for any mistakes or errors 
  • Create and organize conviction summaries
  • Assist clients in managing ACS cases related to their children 
  • Assist clients in managing and pursuing visitations and or gaining custody of their children
  • Organizes parenting events 
  • Participate in staff meetings and team meetings
  • Participate in a job sector team
  • Collaborate with other departments 
  • Oversees PLAC program
  • Travel to all three of The Doe Fund facilities in Harlem and in Brooklyn
  • Maintains and establishes relationships with Legal referrals and outside agencies  
  • Assist with the application process for Certificate of Relief from Disabilities and Certificate of Good Conduct 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MSW preferred
  • A passionate desire to motivate participants to set up child support payments both as a trainee and as a grad and order RAP sheets
  • Managerial Experience 
  • Four to six years of experience working with workforce re-entry for those with significant re-entry barriers; especially the homeless and individuals with conviction histories
  • Two to four years of classroom facilitation
  • Two to four years of experience coordinating small events
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and networking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Manage multiple agendas effectively
  • Ability to follow up and multi-task
  • Ability to work independently
  • Be a team player
  • Flexible, creative, and solution-oriented approach to issues
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word
  • Design Software (Visme, Canvas, etc.)
  • Experience with Public Speaking
  • Experience using Google Suite
  • Strong work ethics
  • Able to work on average two-three evenings per week
