The Doe Fund is a leading New York City non-profit organization that operates the enormously visible Ready, Willing & Able program, whose participants clean over 170 miles of streets and sidewalks every day. With a $69 million budget, 400+ staff members, and 46,000 individual donors, The Doe Fund is nationally acclaimed as a work-based model for solving homelessness and criminal recidivism. We empower people to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency, substance abuse, and incarceration through innovative work and housing programs.

We are seeking a Part-Time Resident Manager for The Doe Fund’s newest permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals including veterans living with a serious mental illness and/or history of substance use. The housing program is designed to provide long-term residential care and twenty-four-hour support services in a community environment that maximizes residents’ independence while ensuring their physical and emotional security and well-being. This 90-unit residence will provide housing for 54 individuals referred by the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the rest 36 units will be apartments for affordable to low-income households

The Resident Manager is responsible for the supervision of the residents and the overall operation of the residence during designated shifts. S/he will work collaboratively with the Clinical team and the Program Director to ensure that resident needs are being met as well as the safety of the residence. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills along with experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance use disorder. 

The shifts that we are looking to cover are: Saturday – Sunday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm OR 9:00 pm to 9:00 am.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Function as a liaison between the residents and the staff
  • Collaborate with the Security staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the residents
  • Perform hourly patrols in the residence
  • Manage any challenging situations and/or crises that may occur at the residence
  • Responsible for handling any incidents that may occur at the residence and completing an Incident Report form, as needed
  • Communicate noteworthy events to the Program Director and the Clinical team as well as document them in the appropriate logbook
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings  
  • Ensure all aspects of the Fire Alarm System (FAS) are working properly and are up to code with FDNY                                           
  • Visually inspect and document all components of the FAS
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED, some college preferred
  • Fire Safety certification is preferred (F-02 or F-80)
  • At least two years of experience working in social service, residential setting
  • The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, mental illness, and homelessness
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills – internet and Microsoft Office
