Overview: The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly 11,000 New York City youth each year. Our mission is to empower young adults to reach their full potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.

The Clinical Supervisor (Membership) provides targeted community-based mental health support for new members of the Door who are not yet ready or are not appropriate candidates for formal counseling; for youth in immediate crises; and for youth on The Door’s counseling waitlist. The Clinical supervisor will provide appropriate mental health resources and screening; short-term mental health counseling for a caseload of new members; and supervisory support for intake counselors, who perform intakes with new members. The Clinical Supervisor will also serve as a first responder to crises. This position will serve as a consultant for Administration for Children’s Services calls and mental health needs identified at the time of membership. Ongoing training and professional supervision are provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage youth to receive responsive and preventive counseling
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to provide community-based clinical support to a caseload of young people
  • Provide clinical support and supervision for interns in the Membership program, and consultation with Membership program staff.
  • Continue the ongoing development and implementation of a clinical framework for screening, engaging and supporting youth and young adults (up to age 25) with severe and persistent mental illnesses and/or who have a history or risk of homelessness, including mental health and psych evaluations.
  • Develop procedures and systems to provide clinical support to staff and interns; and other staff across agency as needed.
  • Assist with data collection, programmatic grant compliance and reporting.
  • Support interns in the thorough assessment of each young person and to develop service plans based on those assessments
  • Ensure that clients receive referrals to appropriate Door and community resources through regular follow-up
  • Oversee coordination treatment plans with various service providers and internal departments, using validated tools, and update treatment plans every 3-months
  • Maintain all reporting requirements, including those of the agency, all regulatory authorities
  • Work as an active member of The Door’s Behavior Management Team (BMT) and attend all associated meetings
  • Coordinate and facilitate case conferences, including staff from other program areas/agencies to determine appropriate treatment plans for young people
  • Provide de-escalation and crisis intervention as necessary
  • Serve as expert for Administration of Children’s Services call determinations
  • Participate in agency-wide and department staff meetings monthly, as well as all scheduled team meetings
  • Complete any additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • LCSW preferred; Master’s degree in related field with two years relevant professional experience (LMSW, LMHC considered)
  • Demonstrated ability to engage hard-to-reach populations
  • Familiarity and experience with trauma-informed approaches to service coordination and delivery
  • Experience and/or knowledge working with street-involved youth
  • Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Understanding of adolescent development, assessment, counseling, and/or crisis management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French or Mandarin strongly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary team

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week
