Overview:

The Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor’s main responsibility is to support the Wardrobe Supervisor on wardrobe logistics for all productions, events and workshops as well as stock management.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Wardrobe Supervisor in order to develop work schedules for each production project.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and tracks costumes for all work requests and special events.
  • Monitors all rehearsal reports. Supervises rehearsal costume items prepared by Costume Apprentice Assistants. Attends weekly Wardrobe meetings and shop meetings. Attends production meetings, rehearsals and staff meetings as needed.
  • Speaks with students from Opera, Drama and Dance before any performance on proper Costume and Wardrobe protocol.
  • Supervises Wardrobe crews (overhire and Work Study) throughout dress rehearsals and performances. Develops run sheets, check-in lists and coordinates all backstage wardrobe logistics. Supervises laundry and all prep work for shows as needed (laundering, dry-cleaning, pressing and steaming). Coordinates and tracks costumes from the costume shop to all Juilliard venues.
  • Helps to coordinate all dry-cleaning and maintenance of all costumes throughout and post production including the restoration and return of all rented costumes.
  • Assists in the coordination of inventory and restock of all wardrobe supplies.
  • Cleans and maintains all costume storage spaces and helps coordinate the re-stock of all shows and projects with the assistance of Costume Apprentice Assistants.
  • Receives donations as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Office Manager and Wardrobe Supervisor in the assurance of safe working conditions.
  • Coordinates incident reports with both the Office Manager and Wardrobe Supervisor as needed.
  • Fulfills maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis in the costume shop and storage areas.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

 

Required:

  • Two years of professional wardrobe experience.
  • Strong knowledge of costume history, period and sizing.
  • Computer literacy including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

 

Preferred:

  • One year of experience in a professional costume shop.
  • Proficient abilities in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines and sergers.
  • Proficient hand sewing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in a wide range of clothing construction techniques and alteration methods.
  • Knowledge of general dying and theatrical craftwork.
  • Previous Costume Coordinator experience
  • Experience working in an educational institution.
  • Experience in the training of staff, freelancers or apprentice.
