The Evening and Weekend Circulation Assistant is responsible for management and oversight of library circulation activities on evenings and weekend; supervise student workers, handle reading room maintenance and related tasks.  This is a full-time position, working 32 hours per week. This is a 52-week position with an annual salary of $40,181.18.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Train, supervise, and schedule student workers who staff the library circulation desk.
  • Perform circulation activities on library Innovative Interfaces Sierra system.
  • Handle reading room maintenance, shelving, shelf-reading, and general stacks maintenance.
  • In conjunction with other members of the circulation team, professional librarians, and student workers, handle annual library collection inventory.
  • Manage library holds for Evening Division and Preparatory Division student accounts. 
  • Perform monetary transactions on library cash register.
  • Assist patrons with all circulation matters, including disputes about missing items, fines, and overdue materials.
  • Assist with oversight of Academic Commons.
  • Manage library new books shelf.
  • Assist with management of library reserves.
  • Prepare and revise procedure manuals and related documentation, as required.
  • May perform reference transactions when a Librarian is unavailable.
  • During the nine months of the academic year, work Saturday, Sunday, and selected evening hours. 
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the School and department operations.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in music.
  • Previous library experience.
  • Knowledge of classical music, including the ability to read music.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to function efficiently within a busy and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to deal calmly and effectively with patron issues.
  • Strong commitment to library service.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact
