Description:

This is a full-time position. This apprenticeship is for individuals serious about pursuing a professional career in theatrical wigs, hair, and makeup. Apprentice duties center on wig construction, styling, and running shows. The apprentice will participate in every step of the build process, from the initial head measurement through maintenance of the wig during a run.

The salary is $17.39 per hour or a contracted amount of $27,824 for the school year.

About the Professional Apprentice Program: This program provides immersive training for emerging performing arts technicians and administrators, addressing the need for practical training in the field. For over four decades, it has prepared recent graduates, early-career professionals, and individuals undergoing career transitions for employment in the cultural sector. This is achieved through hands-on experience, professional development, and networking and mentorship opportunities.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Wig styling and facial hair building and alterations.
  • Wig and Makeup Run Crew positions: putting student performers into wig, hair, makeup looks for productions, running quick changes, and handling maintenance of wigs and makeup throughout run of show.
  • Shop and stock organization and maintenance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Passion and basic knowledge of the intended craft.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or related professional experience and transferable skills, or a combination of both.
  • Active Cosmetology License or Make-Up Course Accreditation.

Preferred Background:

  • Ideal candidate has some prior backstage theatrical and/or film and television experience.
