Juilliard, a global leader in performing arts education, seeks a visionary and accomplished Senior Director to lead the strategic evolution of its digital ecosystem. This individual will play an integral role in amplifying Juilliard’s educational and artistic excellence and community engagement by orchestrating a compelling and impactful digital presence. The Senior Director will oversee all aspects of the institution’s online presence, including the website, digital marketing initiatives, e-commerce, ticketing platforms, online forms, and data analytics. This role demands a strategic leader with a deep understanding of digital trends and best practices in the arts and culture sector and a passion for leveraging technology to enhance user experience, expand audience reach, and foster a vibrant online community.

This role reports to the Vice President, Communications & Marketing. The annual salary for this role is $130,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital Strategy & Innovation:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with Juilliard’s strategic plan, with a keen focus on advancing the institution’s mission and values.
    • Identify, evaluate, and champion emerging digital platforms and technologies to enhance user engagement, optimize marketing and communications efforts, and drive institutional growth. This includes maintaining a sophisticated understanding of:
      • Content Management Systems (CMS): Extensive experience with enterprise-level platforms like Drupal (or similar) is essential for managing Juilliard’s complex website.
      • Customer Relationship Management (CRM): Expertise in Eloqua or comparable systems with a history of strong lead generation, relationship management, and marketing automation to build our file and improve marketing workflows, personalize communications, and continually improve campaign performance.
      • Analytics & Reporting Tools: Establish and maintain a robust digital analytics framework to track key performance indicators, measure the effectiveness of digital campaigns, and inform data-driven decision-making. Advanced proficiency required in Google Analytics, data visualization tools, and other analytics platforms to extract meaningful insights from data.
    • Oversee the ongoing development, maintenance, and optimization of Juilliard’s website and intranet, ensuring a user-friendly, aesthetically refined, and informative online experience that reflects the institution’s prestige and artistic excellence.
    • Manage the development and execution of sophisticated email marketing campaigns, leveraging segmentation and personalization to cultivate deeper relationships with diverse audiences.
    • Partnering with the Box Office support the optimization of our online ticketing and integrated systems, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly ticketing experience for patrons.
    • Ensure that all digital initiatives adhere to Juilliard’s rigorous standards for data security, accessibility, and user privacy.
  • Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Supervise, lead, mentor, and inspire the digital experience team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence with the spirit of best-in-class customer service.
    • Effectively integrate systems and optimize workflows, ensuring adherence to Juilliard’s evolving protocols for data security and accessibility.
  • Champion digital transformation, spearheading the exploration and implementation of new platforms and technologies to enhance fundraising efforts, deliver on Juilliard’s commitment to accessibility, and deepen engagement with diverse audiences.
  • Cultivate strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across the institution, including:
    • Information Technology: Partner closely with IT to ensure seamless integration of new technologies, robust website infrastructure, and stringent data security protocols.
    • Development & Alumni Relations: Collaborate with Development & Alumni Relations to devise and implement online fundraising strategies, optimize donation processes, and cultivate meaningful relationships with donors through personalized digital communications. Identify and develop new avenues for revenue generation, including new business opportunities, audience research and cultivation, innovative pricing strategies, and impactful communications and marketing initiatives.
    • Communications, Design & Content: Partner with Communications, Design, and Content teams to ensure consistent brand messaging, compelling content strategy, and cohesive storytelling across all digital platforms to cultivate brand awareness, expand audience reach, and drive engagement with Juilliard’s programs and initiatives.
    • Artistic Divisions: Collaborate with Artistic leadership to promote performances, events, admissions, and artist initiatives through digital channels, audience engagement, and ticket sales.
    • Admissions: Work closely with Admissions to ensure the application process is optimal and enhance the digital experience for prospective students, providing a seamless and engaging journey.
    • Earned Revenue: Support all earned revenue initiatives, including brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce, box office, consulting programs, and more, as needed. These revenue streams directly support scholarships.
  • Forge and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and technology partners, ensuring alignment with Juilliard’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in digital marketing, web development, or a related field, preferably within a prestigious arts and culture organization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing high-performing digital teams and complex digital projects.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, project management, and presentation skills, with the ability to build consensus, inspire collaboration, and effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
