Description: 

The Senior Director (SD) of Student Health will support day-to-day operations of the Office and also provide strategic planning and advocacy. Under the supervision of the Vice Provost and Dean of Student Development, the SD will collaborate across the various offices within Student Development to encourage student engagement with Health and Counseling Services, promote health and wellness, coordinate and participate in after-hours emergency response, and maintain an environment where students feel healthy, safe and supported. The SD will assess ongoing activities and needs of the office through qualitative and quantitative metrics, maintain an awareness of national collegiate trends, and will be active in national organizations. The SD will develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, guardians, and families as needed and appropriate.  

The salary range for this role is $155,000 – 165,000.

Working in Health and Counseling Services at Juilliard: 

The Juilliard School seeks an experienced professional to lead the multi-faceted Office of Health and Counseling Services—a key position supporting Juilliard’s commitment to the health and wellness of our students—and the robust range of services and activities provided therein (https://www.juilliard.edu/campus-life/well-being/health-and-counseling-services). In collaboration with the Juilliard leadership team, the Senior Director will oversee the provision of coordinated and integrated clinical services to College Division students, including medical care, physical and occupational therapies, individual counseling, group counseling, outreach and consultation interventions for hospitalized students or students in distress, referral coordination and referral follow-up; all while ensuring that services are preventative as well as responsive to the diverse needs of the student population.  

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a multi-faceted and comprehensive student health center serving up to 860 students, with teams providing clinical health services, counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and orthopedic and chiropractic care.  
  • Oversee daily operations and long-term strategic planning, including budgetary oversight, personnel/staffing needs and hiring, annual reports, and maintenance of effective standard operating procedures.  
  • Provide direct support and supervision to the Administrative Director of Health and Counseling Services, Director of Counseling Services, and Medical Director. Evaluate Directors on a regular basis as scheduled by Human Resources. 
  • Ensure that medical certifications for hourly and full-time clinical staff are current in order to comply with the Medical Board of New York State for proper licensing for health care professionals. 
  • Work closely with the Vice Provost and Dean of Student Development, keeping them regularly informed through timely communication about all activity areas pertaining to the student experience and staff needs. 
  • Serve on-call, after-hours, to coordinate Health Services and Counseling Services and Student Development responses to student physical and/or mental health crises.  
  • Serve on the Assessment and Care Team (ACT)–Juilliard’s student behavioral intervention committee. 
  • Supervise the Administrative Director of Health and Counseling Services, Director of Counseling Services, and Medical Director in ensuring up-to-date and efficient management of records and appointments. 
  • Work collaboratively with other Student Development offices to support and present programs and activities that promote student wellbeing and encourage self-care.  
  • Work with campus partners to ensure Juilliard is setting and meeting mental health and wellbeing survey standards. 
  • Encourage and promote Health and Counseling Services throughout the year, including promotion of vaccinations, tabling and creating materials during health-related “theme months/weeks,” and participating in “Stress Less Week.” 
  • Participate in New Student Orientation in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs. 
  • Monitor communicable disease outbreaks. Coordinate escalated and/or new responses and protocols to said concerns. Monitor city, state, and CDC requirements and recommendations. 
  • Engage regularly with national organizations, staying attuned with collegiate trends, as well as attending conferences as a representative of The Juilliard School.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree and 5-7 years of experience working in a clinical healthcare setting. 
  • Experience working with college students. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills. 
  • Managerial and supervisory experience. 
  • Strong project management skills.  
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA and other regulatory requirements relevant to a college clinical healthcare setting. 

 

Preferred Background:

  • Higher education leadership experience in a student health services role 
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Public Policy, or Higher Education Administration, and/or direct experience working as a healthcare provider. 
  • Experience working with Medicat or other healthcare information management platforms. 
  • Experience navigating insurance requirements, coverage, and benefits.
