Job Description

Participate as an active member of the Meeting House team, bringing a comprehensive program of activities and curriculum to meet children’s emotional, social, and psychological needs.  Lead and co-teach small classes of elementary, teen and college students.   Provide direct supervision and training to student interns.

This individual must have exceptional communication skills, classroom management experience, patience and flexibility.  The candidate will ideally have experience in youth development grades K – 5, strong social skills, experience in team leadership and experience in social-emotional learning (SEL). This position includes working weekly at 2 locations in Manhattan.

 Harlem location – Core Responsibilities for our Lunch and Learn Program

We are looking for an energetic individual (preferably BIPOC) to facilitate gameplay and other recreational activities for a school-based Lunch and Learn program. The position will involve implementing engaging activities designed to meet the developmental and social needs of K- 5 students. This individual will work hands-on with students modeling and instructing expected gameplay behaviors as it relates to winning and losing, sportsmanship, tolerating frustrations, and other social-emotional capacities. Responsibilities also include being a positive liaison between TMH and the public school.

 UES location – Core Responsibilities for our After School program

This position involves leading small groups of children, ages 5 – 18, in learning social skills, practicing mindfulness and evolving their social-emotional learning (SEL). This includes helping children build friendships by developing a safe, fun, productive “Meeting House” community and implementing interactive activities highlighting inclusiveness. The potential candidate must maintain an upbeat and positive attitude, always exhibit a genuinely caring manner, act as a role model by participating in and displaying appropriate behavior, communicate effectively, and possess strong verbal and non-verbal social skills during interactions. Other responsibilities include providing weekly feedback to parents on their child’s progress, being mindful of each child’s challenges, including special-needs or learning disabled, and prompting them or supporting them when necessary, participating in discussion, review and assessment of program curriculum as it relates to the children’s goals. This position reports directly to the Lead Social Worker and Director of Youth Programs and will include a variety of administrative duties as well.

Qualifications

● Graduate level degree in Social Work, Child Psychology, Education preferred

● 4+ years experience working in educational settings directly with children

● 3+ years experience leading groups of children

● 2+ years experience working in minority communities

● 2+ years supervisory experience leading a small staff

● Knowledge and hands-on experience with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and mindfulness practices

● Self-starter with excellent verbal communication skills, highly motivated and organized

● Charismatic, playful, energetic, engaging, personable and relatable to children

Hours: Monday thru Friday 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
