POSITION SUMMARY

The Sacristan Intern at Trinity Church Wall Street assists in the coordination and production of liturgical events in the sacred spaces of Trinity Parish (Trinity Church, the Chapel of All Saints, and St. Paul’s Chapel). As a team, Sacristans develop, maintain, and use apps and systems (checklists, liturgical and lectionary recourses, rota scheduling, etc.) to support clergy, volunteers, and staff for all liturgical events. The position of Sacristan Intern is perfect for a person who is organized, has good technical and communication skills, has a flexible schedule, is interested in the liturgy and lectionary of the Episcopal Church, and who wants active, hands-on experience with the details of producing minor to major liturgical events at one of the most historic and unique parishes in the United States. 

To be considered you must be a student enrolled in a undergraduate program or graduate program. The Internship program will begin on June 3rd and end on August 2nd. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve and support the clergy by facilitating all details of the maintenance and operation of Trinity Church Wall Street’s sacred parish spaces.

• Facilitate and participate in varied liturgical events.

• Maintain the parish’s resources for all liturgical events using apps and systems.

• Function adaptably in all sacred spaces and all liturgical event types at varied dates and times.

• Help perform event set-up and break-down.

• Help create, revise, and maintain event resources via apps and systems (checklists, rota of participants, lectionary materials, service notes, etc.).

• Communicate event procedures to all event participants and assist as needed.

• Ensure that liturgical events are systematic, well communicated, and collaborative.

• Help to maintain a clean, organized, and orderly church, sacristy, and office.

• Assist with administrative duties including inventory and procurement of supplies, purchasing

and budgeting with the Finance Department, and tracking expense reports using Trinity’s

financial tools. Assist with other administrative responsibilities as required.

• Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity policies, procedures, and rules.

• Perform all duties in a manner that promotes Trinity’s mission, vision, and core values

• Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES

• Highly organized and attentive to detail.

• Superior aptitude in technology (MacOS fluency, web apps, iPhone apps, Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets, MS Office, and Collaboration tools, etc.)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Keen sense of time management, always on time and prompt.

• Able to take and give direction and awareness of when either is appropriate.

• Knowledge of Episcopal liturgy and lectionary and a desire to learn more.

• Able to work flexible hours:

• The Sacristan Intern is scheduled to work up to 24 hours per week.

• For on-site operations, the Sunday schedule can be 7am to 2pm.

• For on-site operations, Sacristans are scheduled to be “Sacristan on Duty” in the churches for one or more days per week.

• There are many special events (marriages, burials, baptisms, etc.) that make the schedule variable.

• Able to think on one’s feet and make rational and good decisions on the spot.

• Willingness to publicly read scripture in church services. 

• Sense of humor and calm presence.

• Thirst for knowledge and learning. 

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program.

• Experience as a volunteer in the Episcopal liturgy or similar liturgical tradition highly desirable.

• Competence in Spanish is a plus.
