Position:           Security/Maintenance Worker

Department:       Older Adult Services

Reports to:         Center Director of Jefferson Senior Center

Hours:              Full Time

Salary:             $18.53/ Hourly

FLSA:               Non-Exempt

 

Position Summary:

The Security Guard/Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of Union Settlement’s employees, visitors, and participants. The Security Guard/Maintenance Worker is tasked with patrolling the building, responding to safety and security threats, and establishing a security presence. The Security Guard/Maintenance Worker will help assist with greeting visitors and delivering first class customer service assistance. In the absence of a Maintenance Worker in the building, the Security Guard/Maintenance Worker may assist with custodial duties/tasks. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Greets and welcomes visitors and clients. Provides visitors with a positive first impression of the

organization. Provides information on programs and services when visitors come into the building. 

  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling the center; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance of people into the senior center. 
  • Remove trespassers from the area. 
  • Secure all exits, doors, and windows after the end of operations. 
  • Provide assistance to people in need including setting up evening activities 
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.
  • During evening hours, routine custodial duties are performed to maintain clean and sanitary facilities. 
  • Custodial duties include but are not limited to: 
  • Collects and bags all garbage from the center, placing the tied bags in a closed dumpster.
  • Disinfects and cleans garbage and trashcans, and changes bags.
  • Washes and disinfect bathroom fixtures daily with germicidal solution.
  • Using the germicidal solution, wet mops all washable floors daily including kitchen, bathroom, office, and activity rooms.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors.
  • Buffing floors as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor, Deputy Director of Senior Services, or Director of Senior Services. 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • S-95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems license required for the position; unlicensed candidates are considered but required to obtain a license within 4 months of the start date
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • A dedicated work ethic. 
  • Knowledge of East Harlem community. 
  • An innovative and patient professional dedicated to serving aging populations.
