Overview

The Human Resources Generalist will join a dedicated team that is invested in recruiting, training, and providing excellent benefits and support for the staff who work to further UNITE HERE’s mission. You will provide critical administrative and operational support to the Human Resources Department. The HR Generalist will perform a wide range of HR activities including records management, data entry in ADP Workforce Now, compliance tracking, reporting, internal communications, and supporting staff with their HR requests. This is an on-site position.

Job Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Administrative & Operational Support:

  • Maintain organized personnel and medical files
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding logistics
  • Prepare materials for trainings and events
  • Generate regular reports including staff changes, salary updates, and compliance deadlines
  • Assist with planning and logistics for monthly birthday celebrations and HR presentations
  • Monitor and update status changes and benefit records
  • Support data entry and maintenance of employee information in ADP Workforce Now
  • Assist with maintaining updated benefit summaries, policy handbooks, and compliance calendars

Compliance & Reporting

  • Support HR team in performing compliance tasks and projects
  • Support HR Manager in monitoring and tracking leave of absence requests and follow-up documentation
  • Comply with both organizational policies as well as state-level requirements
  • Assist with document collection for workers’ compensation, disability, and death benefit claims
  • Support file audits and vendor communications as needed
  • Ensure HIPAA and personnel file compliance at all times

Benefits & Employee Support

  • Help staff access their benefits
  • Assist with answering employee questions and resolving issues
  • Work with HR team to develop employee trainings related to benefits
  • Maintain accurate records of benefit enrollments and plan changes

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Human Resources
  • 3+ years of administrative experience, preferably in HR or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn systems like ADP Workforce Now
  • High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee information and internal processes with the utmost discretion

Outstanding Candidates will have:

  • Experience with the labor movement or nonprofits
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
