Job Announcement: Environmental Justice Offshore Wind Programs Coordinator

Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized community organization. UPROSE works at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.

This is a full-time position that provides a benefits package and professional development opportunities. UPROSE is looking for someone who can work in-person full-time Monday-Friday in our Sunset Park, Brooklyn office. Candidates must be able to work in a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Executive Director;
  • Understand local, state, and federal offshore wind policy and offshore wind stakeholders;
  • Advocate and incorporate Just Transition principles into offshore wind policy & project development (procurement, requirements, construction, training, operation, etc.);
  • Engage in community-based energy planning efforts to identify & support local community priorities;
  • Support community education workshops around local renewable energy project benefits and opportunities, Energy Democracy and Just Transition;
  • Effectively collaborate with partners to build accessible offshore wind career pathways, create an equitable offshore wind economy, and support frontline community leadership in project development;
  • Represent the organization at project development & coalition calls;
  • Contribute to grant-writing as needed to support project development

Job requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working for environmental, social, and climate justice;
  • Comprehensive understanding of offshore wind, policy and public processes;
  • Minimum of 2-3 years professional experience relevant to the energy policy, city and community planning and/or project management, offshore wind;
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-setting;
  • Outstanding personal organization, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask;
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications:
  • Excellent written/oral communications skills and comfortable giving public presentations;
  • Good sense of humor

Preferred requirements:

-Experience working with diverse project partners in public, private, and non-profit sectors

-Understanding of New York energy systems and policy

-Knowledge of offshore wind sector and development

-Bilingual proficiency preferred
