Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized grassroots organization working at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research, policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.

Climate Justice Youth Organizer will successfully engage youth into intergenerational leadership as a strong and central voice for UPROSE’s organizing efforts. The Climate Justice Youth Organizer will report to the Climate Justice Organizer and Executive Director and work collaboratively to ensure success of organizational goals. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Coordinating UPROSE’s Intergenerational Leadership & Just transition Programs •

  • Recruiting and training youth to become organizers for environmental justice & climate justice campaigns and movement.
  • Assist in developing strategies for UPROSE’s environmental, climate and social justice programs, campaigns and base building.
  • Collaborating with partner organizations on local, citywide, and national level that serve BIPOC youth and communities
  • Coordinate and develop training materials for UPROSE’s Climate Justice Youth Leadership Institute
  • Other community organizing and administrative responsibilities as necessary •
  • Assist in communications , fundraising and reporting

Job requirements:

  • B.A. in Education or related field, 1- 3 years experience in popular education and/or programs for urban BIPOC youth and community organizing experience.
  • must have excellent self-management, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Personally connected to the issues that underserved communities face;
  • Committed to working in an intergenerational women of color led environment;
  •  Proven experience in coordinating & facilitating meetings and working with grassroots intergenerational communities of color
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; •
  • Skilled at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing and following through while maintaining energy and focus.
  • Strong commitment to environmental justice and social justice issues and UPROSE’s mission and organizing objectives
  • Ability to recruit, inspire, manage and mobilize youth to take effective action •
  • Ability to work collaboratively, be accountable and be part of a team
  • Spanish/English bilingual proficiency preferred
  • Experience promoting issues and policy objectives;
  • Comfort with giving public presentations;
  • cultural competence, humility and a sense of humor
  • Must be willing to work 10-6PM , including some weekends & evenings & be comfortable with occasional travel
