Communications and Outreach Manager

Part-time (4 days a week)

 

SUMMARY:

The Communications and Outreach Manager role supports Volunteer New York!’s efforts to increase, broaden and deepen awareness of Volunteer New York! in the community. Specifically, the Communications and Outreach Manager divides their time between outreach to our nonprofit partners, future volunteers, and our extended community of current and past volunteers, community supporters, and stakeholders. One important goal of this role is to raise community awareness for the inclusion of diverse populations, specifically those with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDDs) through support of our RISE program.

 

The role requires the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and initiatives while maintaining a positive attitude and energy. Ideal candidates will do well speaking in front of a variety of audiences including agency staff, youth, older adults, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and working professionals. Knowledge of Westchester, surrounding communities, and experience as a volunteer is preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Communications

  • Be a key member of the marketing team that helps to inspire volunteerism, achieve mobilization goals, and increase awareness of Volunteer New York!’s events, campaigns, and programs
  • Develop, curate, and regularly share engaging content across Volunteer New York!’s social media platforms and blog, maintaining a unified voice across different channels that engages target audiences and supports organizational program and marketing goals
  • Draft collateral materials, e-blasts, and occasional press releases
  • Share events on community calendars
  • Take photos and capture video at events, as needed
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to maintain content and communications calendar
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and applications
  • Review analytics and create reports on key metrics
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Director of Communications.

 

Volunteer Outreach

  • Deliver presentations to prospective volunteers
  • Attend and distribute Volunteer New York! information at select fairs and community events, such as expos and internship fairs, healthy day fairs or local street fairs
  • Manage street team volunteers to support collateral distribution
  • Identify, develop and facilitate relationships between community partners to support outreach and communication goals

 

Nonprofit Outreach

  • Meet with nonprofit partners to learn about their volunteer needs
  • Maintain active communication and information flow with RISE program manager who overseas program for people with IDDs
  • Keep excellent records of all outreach activities
  • Input all contacts into a Salesforce database and document all referrals made in the online system

 

STRONG CANDIATES WILL POSSESS:

  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and verbal communications skills
  • Initiative! Passion about community, volunteerism, and increasing the awareness of Volunteer New York! programs and services
  • A love for social media and online community engagement. 2-4 years of experience maintaining a nonprofit or branded social media presence/online group is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; Adobe Creative Suite/Canva (or equivalent photo and video editing software); Editing HTML/WYSIWYG; and Constant Contact (or equivalent email marketing platform)
  • Experience with Hubspot (or a comparable marketing automation platform) is a plus
  • A diplomatic and collaborative approach to working on time-sensitive issues with diverse groups of individuals
  • The ability to communicate with followers in a way that builds community and camaraderie, responding to comments, inquiries, and direct messages in a timely manner
  • A strong sense of aesthetics and graphic design is preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; can relate effectively to a broad range of volunteers, staff, and community leaders
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission of Volunteer New York!
  • Spanish fluency is a plus
  • Representational/public speaking and tabling skills or experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other database is a plus
  • Flexibility and ability to work evenings and occasional weekends (approximately 1-2 nights/weekends scheduled as needed, per month)
  • Access to a car and a valid driver’s license
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID 19
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
  • Sense of humor

 

Schedule: Part-time, 28 hours per week.

Compensation: Compensation paid on an hourly basis: $20/hr. to $22/hr. depending on experience.
