Position Overview

The Program Aide provides part-time assistance to Willie Mae Rock Camp’s on-site music education programs serving girls and gender-expansive youth at our Brooklyn sound lab. This position reports directly to the Director of Programs and works closely with the Sound Lab Manager and Program Coordinator to support program operations and ensure a positive, enriching, and inclusive learning environment for students.

Core Responsibilities

  • Help maintain a clean and organized learning space and assist with program preparations including sound lab set-up and break-down for program activities and events
  • Assist program staff and teaching artists with classroom management and student engagement, and assist students with their projects as needed
  • Maintain a friendly and welcoming environment for students and their families, including assisting with student arrival and pick-up, buzzing students into the building, and greeting parents and guardians
  • Assist with distributing marketing materials to schools, community partners, and other designated locations
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, record-keeping, and materials preparation
  • Assist with studio projects during non-program hours including organization, inventory, and general studio maintenance
  • Participate in regular program and organizational team meetings
  • Contribute to an inclusive and collaborative team environment
  • Provide general support to program staff and students as needed

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with children and youth, particularly in a music or arts education setting
  • Experience with G-Suite and general office applications
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Schedule

15 hours per week on average with opportunity for longer hours during full-day summer and school-break programs.

The typical schedule during school-year programs is Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. with flexibility during non-program days and some full-days during our one-week summer program and three-day school break programs.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position at $25 per hour.

Willie Mae Rock Camp integrates music, technology, and STEM to empower girls and gender-expansive youth ages 10-17 across NYC with the skills and confidence to thrive as creative leaders in a tech-driven future.

We open new possibilities for girls and gender-expansive youth to express themselves while building creative and tech-based skills—with a focus on youth of color. Through the language of music, our students increase their understanding of technology and their confidence to create with it. These transferable skills help prepare them to thrive as creators and innovators in a world being rapidly transformed by digital and analog technologies.

Led by a team of professional musicians and artists, we reach hundreds of girls and gender-expansive youth annually through tuition-free programming in schools, community sites, and our Brooklyn Sound Lab.
