Win is the largest provider of shelter for families experiencing homeless in New York City. Since 1983, Win has been helping homeless New York City women and their children transform their lives through a progressive and holistic approach that doesn’t simply provide a hand out, but a way out. Win’s life-changing process starts with safe, clean housing and includes vital programs and services developed to break the cycle of homelessness, so the women and children caught in the cycle can look forward to a brighter future!

Win is seeking an experienced candidate to work in Win’s lower Manhattan headquarters.

Purpose of the Position: 

The Benefits Specialist role is responsible for supporting core operations of Win Benefits serving as the subject matter expert of benefits plans, programs and policies. Will actively interact with managers, employees and third-party administrators (TPA) to ensure timely, accurate and quality service delivery. Plan and schedule employee communication and ensure recordkeeping and files are organized and compliant. Subject matter knowledge, teamwork, process, relationship management, and effective communication, as well as attention to detail are critical aspects of this role. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for all benefit plans and policies including health, retirement, wellness and leave of absence and coordinate with service providers, carriers and TPA’s for reporting, information requests, employee communication and events. 
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate employee and company communication and education programs supporting Benefits in partnership with carriers and providers — this will include printed, digital, web and mobile based information and materials. 
  • Provide timely and accurate advice and information to employees and managers regarding policy, eligibility, process and benefits utilization; conduct newhire orientation and maintain benefits content materials. 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for 3rd party leave management administrator and employees for FMLA, Paid Family Leave and short/long term disability including eligibility, policies, requests for information and claim form completion. 
  • Reconcile and process monthly carrier invoicing and submit for timely processing. 
  • Develop strong working relationships with all internal/external partners and service providers. 
  • Ensure all benefits files and records are maintained and organized in a relevant and timely basis and assist regulatory and compliance reporting as needed i.e. ACA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA and 5500. 
  • Identify administrative challenges and opportunities for process improvement and appropriate escalations including technology, work flow, efficiency and cost reduction. Actively participate in related projects as assigned. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Must be able to sit at a desk and use a computer for the majority of the work day. 
  • Must be able to attend meetings and events and use public transportation. 
  • Must be able to present benefits information to employees and managers. 
  • Must be able to lift boxes of 25 pounds. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to Win’s mission, vision, and values. 
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a benefits role with strong understanding of benefits, leave of absence and health/wellness plans is required. 
  • Strong client service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of HR programs, systems and policies. 
  • ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS, ATS, benefits management systems experience a plus. 
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
